Neville Chamberlain (Samantha Licciardi)

Extremism is just something we may not be able to avoid. An excellent example of an extremist is Adolf Hitler. Hitler is proving himself to be a very powerful leader. He, of course, is very much so an extremist. He is forcing extremism to rise much faster than I could've predicted. After the huge loss in money that was forced upon Germany it pushed them into a huge depression. Germany is falling apart and it is extremely clear that a change is necessary. This is why extremism is rising. Its a change, something new and different. People are willing to give anything a try to fix the depression they are in. The reason why Hitler and his ideals of extremism are rising is because the defeat of World War I and the terrible debt Germany is facing forces the people of Germany to try any method to improve the depression. The desperate people of Germany are willing to give Hitler's power a chance to help their country recover. With the power Hitler is displaying, it may be hard to conquer him or shut down his rising power. I believe the only act we can take is to appease Hitler and his power hungary rise to power. Eventually, after Hitler reaches power and since we have appeased him throughout his rise, he will not see us as a threat. Therefore, we will eventually be able to control Hitler and ultimately have some of the power he is quickly gaining now. That, I believe, is the only thing we could do in a dangerous situation with the rise of extremism.

  1. Hello Neville, I do agree with your view that extremism has resulted due to the public's desire for change after the depression. You are correct when you say that after suffering, these people needed a new method and belief to follow in order to have hope. But I do not agree with your perspective that Hitler will not be a threat after being fed his power and welcomed by the German people. I Francisco Franco, look up to Hitler and it is clear to see that the powerful man dictates with complete control and terror. For instance he clearly easily disposes of those who he does not desire to be in his country. He has controlled the people of his country through education and fear and proves himself to be an extremely authoritative man. He has only led with such control and demeanor because he knows what is best for his people to provide them with security. Due to this I do not agree that after he is fed power you will be ever have the ability to defeat him and take over. He is too powerful for such things.

  2. Dear Neville, (As Charles De Gaulle)
Hitler may be the "great" leader that you say he is, but ultimately it comes down to one thing. Hitler and his extremism threaten the sovereignty and self determination maintained by France and its freedom Fighters. To do this would deny the heroes their names. Hitler has large ambitions such as, to name a few, world domination and slavery of the minorities. As the protectors of freedom and as humans in general we must oppose these goals. A leader is great if he can be controlled. A leader that wishes to control the world is out of control.
